Hold the iron by the handle, with the baseplate facing upwards and level. Melt wax onto the top left corner of the iron. Sit the iron on the card halfway up the page and glide it gently across the page. It should feel as though the iron is floating across the page.
Touch the iron onto the lower area of the painting then lift off. The effect will vary depending on the amount of wax used - less wax creates finer results. If possible, hold the painting while dabbing the iron onto it. This will prevent the top edge of the iron from touching the painting, creating straight lines.
Use the scribing tool to scratch into the wax. This reveals the white card underneath.
Run a strip of wax along the edge of the iron. Place this edge on the paper to create straight lines.
Touch the tip of the iron onto a wax block. Hold the iron like a pen and draw with the point.
